Privacy policy
What SWFL Leak Directory collects, why, who sees it and how to have it removed. Last reviewed October 24, 2026.
SWFL Leak Directory is run by Daniel Argota from Punta Gorda, Florida. This policy covers the directory website and its add and claim form. It does not cover the websites of the businesses listed, which have their own policies.
What we collect
From the add and claim form
When you send the form, we store what you typed about the business: its name, category, city, address, phone, website, hours, licence number, social profiles and description. We also store your name, your role at the business and your email address, so we can judge whether you speak for the business and reply to you.
To limit abuse, the form keeps a short-lived count of requests per sending address and per email address. The count is stored under a salted hash, not the address itself, and expires within a day. If the form sends you back to fix a field, what you typed is held for 30 minutes so you do not have to type it again.
From the web server
Our host records the usual web server log for every visit: your IP address, the time, the page requested and your browser type. We use it to keep the site running and to trace abuse. We do not join it to form submissions.
Cookies
The directory sets no cookies for visitors. The site runs no analytics, advertising or social media trackers. The only cookies on the site are the ones WordPress sets when a member of our staff logs in to review requests. If that changes, this page changes first.
About the businesses listed
Listings are compiled from public business information: the name, trade, city, phone and website a business publishes. This is business information, not personal information, but a sole trader’s name can be a business name. If you are the person behind a listing and want it corrected or removed, use the form or write to us; see Your rights below.
How we use it
- To read your request against the business’s own website and decide what to publish.
- To reply to you once, at the address you gave, when your request is published or declined.
- To keep a record of who asked for a change to a listing, so a later dispute can be settled.
- For nothing else. We do not send newsletters or marketing email to form senders, and we do not build profiles of visitors.
What is published and what is not
The business details are published after we check them. Your name, your role and your email address are never published, never placed in the search index and never given to the business listed or to anyone else, except as the next section says.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for advertising. The only parties who handle it are the providers that run the site for us:
- Our web host, which stores the site’s database and server logs.
- Our email delivery provider, which carries the one reply we send you and the notice we send ourselves when a request arrives.
We will disclose personal information if the law requires it, for example under a subpoena or court order, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is needed to protect the rights, property or safety of the directory, its visitors or the public.
How long we keep it
- A request waiting for review is kept until a person has read it.
- A declined request is deleted.
- An accepted request is kept with the listing it changed, with your name, role and email address stored as private fields, so we can show who asked for the change if it is questioned. You can ask for those fields to be removed at any time.
- Server logs are kept by our host for a limited period under its own retention rules.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- and we will not treat you differently for asking.
Write to Daniel@argota.co with the business name and the email address you used. We may ask you to confirm you own that address before we act. We answer within 30 days. If you are a business owner asking about the listing itself rather than about personal information, the form is the fastest route.
Children
The directory is for adults doing business. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.
Links to other sites
Every listing links to the business’s own website, and some pages link to map and licence lookups. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control. Read their policies before you give them information.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, staff access needs a password and a second factor, and the private fields on a listing are never printed on a page. No transmission over the internet is fully secure, so we cannot promise that information will never be intercepted, but we take reasonable steps to protect it.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it, this page is updated first and the date at the top moves. Material changes are also noted on the contact page for 30 days.
